Room 5 students have been busy applying their scientific skills to a variety of tasks such as building and testing a paper helicopter and working with a partner to build the longest paper chain. We have been collaborating, communicating and cooperating with our partners to improve our designs from our original paper chains. Time was spent sharing what we've learned and taking time to observe other designs so that we can learn from others and apply the most successful strategies to our own builds. Take a look at some of our work from this week.

Here's what room 5 was working on today:
- We did our first Esti-Mystery during our Number Talk today (ask me about it)
- We did a gallery walk to look at classmates' scientific sketches and shared our observations about the details they added
- We made a paper helicopter as a STEM challenge. We had to test how many paperclips it needed before it no longer spun in the air. Ask me how many paperclips I used
- In writing we used a web to jot down as many ideas as we could about a given topic. Today's topic was My Favorite Game
- In Music we listened to people who used body percussion and identified the tempo
- In Math we shared the solution to last week's math puzzle and now we are working on designing our own puzzles
Note: Book orders were sent home today. Students are encouraged to place orders online (with the help of parents) when possible. Book orders will be due Monday, Sept. 21st

We've had a busy week back to school in grade 4! Students shared some highlights from the week:
- We had a STEM challenge to build a bird's nest to see if we could get it to hold a tennis ball, pass the wind test and be able to be moved to a new location
- We went out to our designated locations at recess
- We drew cartoon trees after watching a video and practicing our drawing skills
- It was neat having only half the class here for staggered entry. It was nice to meet the whole group on Thursday
- We looked at a photo and made observations and asked questions about what we were looking at
- We shared ideas about what we need to be successful and what GREAT teachers do/are to help us decide on our class agreement for the year
- We learned a lot of rules about social distancing, sanitizing and cleaning surfaces in order to stay safe at school
